When the Bible talks about our need to know God, it’s not referring to head knowledge, but to heart knowledge. Our spiritual quest is not to merely know about God, but actually know Him personally. The pathway to that personal relationship with God is clearly laid out in scripture. Matthew 11:27 actually tells us that it is Jesus who reveals the Father to us. Everything begins with Jesus. Let me share with you 3 brief keys to knowing Jesus and developing a personal relationship with Him.

The Gospel of John begins Chapter 3 with the story of a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a good man who recognized that life must hold more meaning than he was currently experiencing. He also recognized where he needed to go for answers—to Jesus. Jesus told him that he must be “born again”.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he must receive the life giving power of the Spirit of God so that he could enter into the Kingdom of God and ultimately enter into eternal life. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that the born again experience, or salvation, is a gift from God. We simply receive in our hearts through faith who Jesus is and what He has done for us. He is the Son of God who gave His life for our sins; after which His Father brought Him back to life.

After accepting Jesus as our Savior, we must refuse to stay the same. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that Jesus makes us brand new. He allows us to start life over. God forgets our past. We can move beyond the pain of all that has gone on before. Refuse to live in the failure and disappointments that have plagued you. Renew your mind by reading the Bible. Come to know God more and more by familiarizing yourself with what He has written in His Word. Pray daily so that you grow in your relationship with Him. Worship and fellowship with other believers. As you do these things, you will come to know God better and better. Not just knowing about Him, you will be living in relationship with Him.
As the Apostle Paul prayed for believers in the book of Ephesians, I pray this for you: That you would come to know God ever more deeply and be able to grasp the depth of His love for you.

Blessings on your spiritual journey!
